Supplier Managed Inventory

Speaker: George Shibata

Total supply chain performance improvement through trading partner collaboration

Successful Supplier-Managed Inventory (SMI) programs can lead to dramatic reductions in lead-times and inventories as well as significant increases in revenues - a total supply chain performance improvement. Our speaker will share his experiences in setting up successful SMI programs in the consumer electronics manufacturing environment - the keys to success; the pitfalls to avoid and the benefits that can be gained.

About the Speaker:
George Shibata is a seasoned professional known for thinking outside the box as well as for balancing vision with practical solutions based on experience in the multi facets of supply-chain management. His notable experiences include:

  • Managing the rapid start-up of the supply chain functions (production planning, procurement, inventory control and logistics) at the Sony plants in Pittsburgh, San Diego and Tijuana.
  • Contributing to the attainment of No.1 market share for projection TVs in the U.S. by leading the Sony Pittsburgh supply chain initiative that achieved the stretch goals of manufacturing lead-time reduction from 5 months to 4 weeks and inventory reduction of greater than 50%.
