January Meeting

- Joint Meeting with APICS -

Value Stream Mapping

Speakers: Karen Martin, Principal of Karen Martin & Associates
and Mike Osterling, Principal of Osterling Consulting

Value Stream Mapping is the cornerstone of Lean. Mapping administrative processes at a macro level provides us with the ability to identify the waste that is often hidden within office processes, create a blueprint for prioritizing improvement opportunities in administrative areas and shape an effective implementation strategy.

Many manufacturers are already experiencing the benefits of Lean manufacturing – lower product cost, improved quality and reduced lead time. But Lean principles and tools can have an even more profound effect on organizational performance and worker morale when they are applied to administrative processes, which often account for 60-80% of payroll costs and lead time. Extending Lean across the enterprise can dramatically impact an organization’s bottom line and ability to deliver value to its customers.

About the speakers:

Karen Martin, Principal of Karen Martin & Associates, specializes in value-focused process design and Lean Enterprise implementation and training. Her internal experience includes serving as the Director of the Institute for Quality and Productivity at San Diego State University; and the Director of Quality Improvement for a nationwide healthcare organization.
