Don Joy Manufacturing: from Traditional Batch & Queue to a World-Class Lean Enterprise

Speaker: Jerry M. Wright, P.E.,
Director of Operations dj Orthopedics, Inc.

"Ever wonder what could happen if your company unplugged their MRP system and used Kanban instead? Well wonder no more! Come join us as Jerry Wright, Director of Operations of dj Orthopedics shares with us the fascinating story of the transformation of a Don Joy Manufacturing company from a traditional batch & queue to a world-class lean enterprise.

Jerry WrightMr. Wright joined dj Orthopedics in 1997 and has held leadership positions in both facilities/engineering and operations. In late 1998, he pioneered the development of the company’s preventative maintenance program and instituted the company’s first CMMS system in early 1999. Mr. Wright is currently the Director of Operations at the company’s headquarters in Vista, California. At dj Orthopedics, he was one of the key change leaders that helped to introduce lean thinking and transformed the company from a traditional batch and queue manufacturer to a world-class, lean enterprise.

Prior to joining dj Orthopedics, Mr. Wright worked at Kimberly-Clark Corporation in numerous engineering, maintenance and operations roles in four different states over a 10-year period. He also worked for Allied-Signal Aerospace (now Honeywell) in turbine engine design.

Mr. Wright holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Arizona State University, a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Phoenix and has his Professional Engineer license from the State of California.

dj Orthopedics is proud to have attained the benchmark status of Industry Week’s Top Ten Best Plants in North America. The Tijuana plant was a top ten winner for 2004 and the Vista plant was the Top Ten winner for 2005.

General Information

Reservations are required.....kindly reserve your seat online or by phone, fax or mail.

The following details apply to all members and non-members planning to attend one of our meetings:

  • Price:
With reservations $25 for members $30.00 for non-members
    At the door $30.00
  • Cancellations:
Any member/non member who fails to attend after having made a reservation, and has not cancelled by 4:00 PM on the Friday prior to the dinner meeting, will be invoiced $25.00 for the cost of the dinner.

Due to the fact that NAPM-SD has to pay the full price of each guaranteed dinner (we give a count on Friday), it has become necessary to charge the full price to the member/non member that fails to attend after making a reservation. It is not fair to the general membership to subsidize costs of dinners.
