Doing Business in China: Improving Chances of Success

Speaker: Dr. Noel R. Miner, Managing Director, International Management Consultants, LLC

People working in China need to understand the basic cultural setting for doing business, as well as how to implement decisions and how to manage supplier relations. Based on over 20 years of experience in China, Noel Miner will describe techniques used by other successful companies working in this dynamic and complex environment. Succeeding in China is not easy but it is possible using the proper techniques.

Speaker Biography:
Over the last thirty years, Dr. Miner’s expertise has helped Fortune 500 companies from Europe, North America and Latin America implement their management and personnel strategies throughout Asia. Dr. Miner partners with individual executives and business teams to deepen their understanding of Chinese, Korean, and Japanese business practices, including cultural values, negotiation, conflict resolution and relationship building. For Asian executives, he also clarifies Western business practices and concepts. His in-depth knowledge has helped management teams improve communication, set clear tactical goals and create plans to achieve those goals. Such management alignment work strengthens the teams and accelerates their accomplishment of goals. As a consultant, Dr. Miner also has expertise in working with global energy companies who wish to transfer operational management responsibility from Western to Chinese or Asian national managers. Dr. Miner brings to his clients skills in organizational development, selection and training, executive coaching and competency development.

Formerly, Dr. Miner served as Vice-President, Business Consulting for Prudential Relocation International where he worked with clients in various industries including automotive, energy and manufacturing. In that role, he developed, supervised and managed the creation of successful training programs and interactive simulation modules in negotiation and team integration for global corporations.

Combined with his experience in International Business, Dr. Miner brings knowledge of international finance and economics gained as a currency and crude oil trader for a large investment company. Dr. Miner received his Ph.D. from Stanford University in Modern Chinese Economic Development. He previously taught Asian culture and International Business at several major universities.

Dr. Miner is a frequent speaker for international conferences sponsored by Chemical Week, The Economist, the National Foreign Trade Council, Human Resource Organizations and Employee Relocation Groups.

NAPM-San Diego's dinner meetings are held the second Tuesday of every month. Locations vary to accommodate the diverse locations of our members, so be sure to scroll down to read about our current meeting or check the future schedule for meetings to come. Remember that you do not have to be a member to come and join us!

General Information

Reservations are required.....kindly reserve your seat online or by phone, fax or mail.

The following details apply to all members and non-members planning to attend one of our meetings:

  • Price:
    With reservations $28 for members $35.00 for non-members
    At the door $35.00
  • Cancellations:
    Any member/non member who fails to attend after having made a reservation, and has not cancelled by 4:00 PM on the Friday prior to the dinner meeting, will be invoiced $30.00 for the cost of the dinner.

    Due to the fact that NAPM-SD has to pay the full price of each guaranteed dinner (we give a count on Friday), it has become necessary to charge the full price to the member/non member that fails to attend after making a reservation. It is not fair to the general membership to subsidize costs of dinners.
