Position Overview

A 20 year old manufacturing and distribution company in San Diego is looking to round out their team with a “hands on” supply chain and logistics expert. The right candidate will successfully accomplish daily supply chain and logistics responsibilities as well as lead the effort to build the infrastructure necessary to support our rapid growth.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare purchase orders and/or bid requests for a wide variety of goods/materials
  • Purchase complex, critical, and costly parts and supplies
  • Elicit high performance from national and international suppliers
  • Effectively negotiate pricing and terms
  • Coordinate imports
  • Analyze business conditions and process capabilities
  • Develop and maintain supplier evaluation tools and records
  • Develop function evaluation tools, metrics, and analysis
  • Negotiate complex purchase agreements with suppliers
  • Communicate with suppliers (including occasional onsite visits) to elicit their ability to meet quality requirements, specifications and delivery dates
  • Resolve more complex problems such as quality issues
  • Recommend enhancements to internal systems
  • Coordinate activities with the executive management team
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree with four plus years supply chain management/purchasing/logistics experience (or equivalent combination of education/experience) with offshore experience.
  • Thorough understanding of purchasing and negotiating principles and concepts, best practices, and general business operations
  • Basic knowledge of Lean principles
  • Knowledge of legal and regulatory requirements related to procurement
  • Highly organized and responsible individual
  • National Association of Purchasing Managers membership (NAPM) a plus
  • Offshore purchasing experience in China or Europe
  • Full understanding of International logistics, Harmonized Tariff Codes, Duties and associated costs and processes.
  • The ability to speak, read, and write Mandarin Chinese is a plus.
  • Fully conversant with Microsoft products: Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook.
  • Capable of occasional international travel
  • Work schedule to include adjustments to communicate via phone with international suppliers.
