Sr. Commodity Procurement Specialist

Position Overview

Position Title: Sr. Commodity Procurement Specialist
Reports To: Director, Indirect Procurement

Position Purpose:

The Sr. Commodity Procurement Specialist is responsible for analyzing, sourcing, negotiating and completing the contract process for complex categories of non-merchandise products and service programs. These categories may include (but are not limited to) Software, Computer Hardware, Telecommunications, Human Resources Benefits and/or Construction Services. This position also evaluates the effectiveness of the supply chain process for assigned commodities to achieve the greatest possible value consistent with specifications, delivery requirements and financial considerations.

Responsibilities Major Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Research and interview new goods or services suppliers, prepare and analyze RFPs, conduct negotiations and make supplier recommendations to Manager or Director.
  • Establish and maintain strategic relationships with key suppliers ensuring focus on cost, quality and service on the purchased items.
  • Provide ongoing analysis of existing products and services to ensure the greatest possible value.
  • Develop project plans that define scope, schedule, budget, business impact and risks. Execute plans, identify and resolve issues or obstacles and communicate to key stakeholders to ensure on time completion of projects.
  • Resolve problems related to quality, delivery, invoicing, rejections, payments between the company and our suppliers.
  • Prepare reports, evaluate findings and make recommendations to the procurement function regarding the effectiveness of product, service or supplier.
  • Assist in the development of improved processes surrounding RFPs, bid analysis, purchasing strategies, strategic sourcing, contract negotiations, etc.
  • Identify opportunities for leverage in procurement activities across different functional areas for savings and process improvements.
  • Ensure compliance with Company’s policies with regard to procurement to minimize corporate risk.
  • Develop and maintain productive, collaborative and professional relationships with internal departments.
Requirements

This position requires the following skills and experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Supply Chain, or Procurement.
  • 2 to 5 years of procurement, supply chain or supplier management experience.
  • Equivalent combination of experience, training and education may be considered.
  • Experience developing moderately complex cost and financial models with financial accounting.
  • Strong negotiation and influencing skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with internal clients and external suppliers.
  • Proficiency in MS Office skills (Word, Excel, Access.)
